Meet the Baker
Bringing people home
Hello and welcome! My name is Kerry, and I'm glad you're here.
Those roots run deep for me. I am a direct descendant of the Sauer and Smith families, two pioneering lines that immigrated from England and Germany to settle Washoe County in 1854 and 1859, homesteading Pleasant Valley and Washoe City a full decade before Nevada achieved its “Battle Born” statehood in 1864.
If you grew up in these valleys, you know our state song, “Home Means Nevada.” Listen to this beautiful rendition by April Meservy.
While my official cottage food registration is recent, my time at the stove is lifelong. I learned to cook through generations of passed-down techniques, flowing from my ancestors to my mother, Doris, who taught my sister, Lynn, and me from a very early age. Joining 4-H as a kid further built my skills, giving me an early foundation in discipline, precision, and the joy of community baking. Together with my dad, Joe, my parents instilled in me the grit and hard work that define who I am today.
I am proud to serve our community full-time as an experienced Realtor since 2009, while also operating my registered Nevada Cottage Food Operation, Crumb & Key Bakehouse by Kerry. These two roles fuel the same passion. Whether I am guiding you through a complex real estate transaction or baking a precise, high-elevation loaf from my home kitchen, I bring the exact same standard of excellence and uncompromised attention to detail to the table.
I navigate the world by feeling things deeply and listening closely to those around me. I know that buying a house or sharing a fresh loaf of bread are both deeply tied to our human need for safety, comfort, and connection. Baking at high elevation takes patience, awareness, and quiet discipline, and let's be honest, sometimes a whole lot of extra flour and a good sense of humor. It requires me to tune into subtle environmental shifts, much like reading the unspoken needs of a client or neighbor.
Both paths are entirely about the same thing: bringing people home.
Crumb & Key Bakehouse is my way of honoring the grit of the generations before me while creating a highly intentional space to serve, listen to, and nourish the community I call home.
Thank you for supporting a truly local, independent business.
With love, Kerry
